Bistek is one of those meals I can whip up quickly on short notice. It has a short ingredients list and a simple cooking process. It really shines when using high quality ingredients and especially if you add extra sour flavor (lemon) like I do.

It is common to brown the meat before adding the sauce to the pan but I just cook it to speed up the meal. You could throw the onion in the sauce as well to make it even faster but do whatever’s easy for you.

I recommend eating it with rice and a vegetable. I usually end up eating it broccoli but any stew vegetable or leafy green will do!

Ingredients

Bistek ingredients are common and simple: steak, onions, lemon juice, soy sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. You can use any onion but I chose a red and yellow onion to mix it up.

You can find all the ingredients for this recipe on Hungryroot (link). Even the rice and broccoli sides are quick to prepare and tasty too! (I did provide my own common ingredients like soy sauce, sugar, etc.)

What is Hungryroot? (Sponsored)

Hungryroot (link) is a meal and grocery delivery service that helps you eat healthier. You can browse through their preset meals or pick individual ingredients if you have something in mind.

I actually have been a non-sponsored subscriber for a few months this past year and Doug and I love the preset meals. They’re super easy to whip up; usually around 15 minutes per meal. It is extremely convenient when we haven’t had time to plan a meal and we’re hungry NOW!

The best thing about Hungryroot meals is that they help us eat healthier. We choose meals to include vegetables and proteins. I’ve tried other meal delivery services in the past and never enjoyed them as much as Hungryroot. I can’t remember any meal that I didn’t like from Hungryroot (link)!

How do you make bistek?

Bistek is quite easy to make: Marinate the meat before adding them to sautéed onions. Cook it all up and enjoy when the meat is done!

List of ingredients and detailed steps can be found at the bottom of this page.

Marinate thin (or thick) slices of beef in soy sauce, lemon juice, and black pepper.

Sauté onions until they begin to brown. Add some salt to taste.

Add the meat and sauce and cook until it is done! Feel free to add salt and pepper to your liking.

Enjoy with rice and vegetables.
